Default Wet but not Salty

Time for the leak test. Pumped in all my stored RO/DI. There were buckets and pumps everywhere on my deck Ran 3/4" line through living room window and let er Buck. Filled in less than an hour.

Bulkhead leaked a bit , so had to drain it down a foot and siliconed it up. There was a couple little chips from the drill bit.
Still want to add a check valve to the return line as a backup for the anti siphon holes inside the tank. Of course everywhere I order one from has me on a waiting list. And they are definately not found in Yellowknife.

also had to test modded overflow. I changed the drain from 1 1/2" to 1" by reducing both sides of the bulkhead. I wanted to see if this would allow me to open the main herbie drain gate valve a bit more. Didn't seem to make much difference so I returned ther top portion of main drain pipe back to 1 1/2" and seemed to allow me to open the gate valve a bit more. Looks like only other option is to try a bigger pump, but for now I can live with the flow.

Good idea, I have plans for my tile saw and some extra glass I have laying around. Think there may be a tube of silicone around also. Until then I like your safety suggestion.

Default New toys

My buddy the mailman has been like family lately, almost everyday he drops off little things for me and for another tank I'm doing for a guy here in Yellowknife.

A Sicce Voyager 7 and a Sicce Voyager 4. EVER BIG .
The 7 is quite big, but ever so quiet also. Another plus was the fact that the magnet held through the glass and tile on both pumps.

The 7 pushs 2800 GPH and the 4 1600. so a good start to my flow needs.

Wow, with that big new pump you have, you still can't get the overflow running wide open ... this is good as you will not have to ever worry about your overflow being overwhelmed
Nothing wrong with that
As we discussed with Grizz, you only need 6 or 7 times sump turn-over/hour
No point in running a larger pump for now. Get the system running and worry about it later

I know, you don't like the gate being so 'closed-off'
I agree with your concern about it plugging up, but that can't happen if you cover the top of your overflow with a sheet of acrylic
Only the snails that grow in the box ... the ones that went through the teeth ... will ever get big enough to plug up the gate
Plus, the velocity of water passing through such a small opening will most likely keep it clear
You can also, once a month or whenever, open the gate full blast and flush it out
I found a snail in my chaeto drain this way ... popped right out

I'll sit back now while you keep adding pics .....

Default SALTY

After more than a year in the making, I now have the beginnings of a reef tank in my living room.

Cover for overflow is about 12th on the list.
New pump has dropped to about 248.
I have no idea why it bothers me, but I'm learning to live with it........
