Lostmind, I appreciate your experience... I'm worried that the scwd would fail sooner with a low-flow pump than it would with a more powerful pump. I am wondering if it would help if every once in a while I put the pump inlet and scwd outlet lines in a jug of vinegar and water and just pumped it in a loop for a while. The pressure might clean the scwd out better than just a bath... probably clean the pump out at the same time.

I wonder why there is such a wide range of experiences with this device. Some people don't clean them and they last over two years. Some clean them regularily and they fail. Some are silent, some grind...
Are there different models or generations of scwds or is it just "luck of the draw"?

Honestly, out of the 3, ALL made noise. Not that bad, but audible.

I think the user experience depends on a lot of factors... everyone is using different pumps, differently plumbing, etc etc....

I have three- one about two years old, one just over a year, the last one just under a year. All work great, no noise. The only cleaning I've done was thinking about I should be doing some. (knock on wood) All three have different flow rates. So I don't know what to say why some work better then others? Yes Wai's does carry them.

On another note I'm upgrading my tank and want way more flow I'm pretty sure I'm going to try the Ocean Motion set up, just deciding on pumps for it.

Dave,
Are you pumping filtered or "dirty" water? Are any of your flows close to 300gph? I figure that at that rate it will take me around 20 seconds to switch back and forth.
Let me know if you will be selling any of your scwds when you upgrade...

Thanks,

- Chad

My flow rates are about 1300, 750, 300, dirty water. When I upgrade if you still intersted I'll let you know. ( hopefully about a month)

Stephane,
Did you notice if they have also redesigned the 3/4" version? I read somewhere that the new ones would allow you to take them apart for cleaning. Hope so.
