I too am sorry to read about your son's problems, and agree with Brad. Get a new hobby, as this one is not worth it. Alternatively get a much smaller tank. I myself have a 50 and a 15 in a very small room with glass covers and no sumps. I have no detectable humidity problems.
Hope you find a solution soon.
