Yeah what's up with them bases anyhow. At least I don't have a problem with trying to find a spot for mine though. (All currently filed under "G" )

I think your blue-lined clam is in fact a maxima not a squamosa. But you're correct, blue squamy's are very unusual. Be that as it may though, it is still quite exquisite.

Doug, do you have a compressor and a die grinder? I hate the circular frag discs as well (just don't look natural!). I found a die grinder with a cut off wheel quickly trims them down to size. If you have air but no grinder I'll drop mine off for you.

Sorry bout your sps issues.
What??? Man I hate distributors. They came to us as squams and ultra croceas. Thanks for the heads up Tony. Looks like I have some clam homework to do.

Thanks for the offer Francis. I am getting er done with a dremel and a 1 1/2" metal cutting disc. Not ideal,I know but it seems to be working.

Well, maybe I'm wrong. But the pattern is one I've seen on pictures before for maximas. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but my first thought was "Wow what a nice maxima! But why didn't he post a picture of the squamosa!" Maybe I should have looked closer at the shell. Squamosa scutes are so noticeably more exaggerated and further apart from one another than those on maximas or croceas.

But ultimately, whatever it is: it is one wickedly pretty clam. I want one too! It was VERY hard making a decision the other day. I could have easily picked 4 right off the bat.

Oh you made it in did you? You didnt take the green crocea?

So both clams in that pic are maximas? Catherine! We need another clam guru here Maybe she can remember for sure if maximas were on that shipping list?

Edit* now that Ive compared the shells on these new clams to the shell from the squamosa that I had( to soon for a clam methinks) I think your right Tony.

Small clams are so hard to ID for sure. The scutes can be difficult to differentiate when they are smaller then 1".

If you ever make it up to my place you could check it out for yourself.

As some of you may know RC got an early visit from Santa. Two huge coral shipments in the last week which loosely translated means Xmas came a little early for me too. I picked up another A.lovely to replace the one that RTNed on me after an ick treatment, a "pokerstar" M. danae and a couple other unidentified acros( one I havnt got a decent pic of yet.)
