I am very interested in these but I have a couple questions/concerns. I keep hearing people talk about how great the shimmer is. Is the shimmer the same as a MH, weaker, or stronger? I haven't seen too many LED fixtures in person but the ones I did see llooked similar to a strobe light. I would like to avoid anything like that. I find the shimmer of a MH to be alright, even appealing, but anything more I find extremely unpleasant.

The shimmer is defintly of mh caliber. Maybe stronger , I would see one in person before I made a decision if I were you.

the amount of shimmer is situational. The more surface agitation your tank has the more shimmer your going to get because the light is refracting off of the waves.

Not the best pics but I thought this might help with illustrate the light spread. Tank is a standard 135g (72x18x24")

Since the LEDs are arranged into a single point source on these lights, they produce a more natural shimmer very similar to metal halide. No disco effect that you can see with some LED fixtures.

15 Sold! We shouldn't have any problem reaching the 40 mark at this rate.

Thanks for the imput. I don't know where I could try one of these locally but I may take the plunge anyway. It sounds like they are the best option for me in LEDs right now. What other bulbs/light types does the 10k model compare to in terms of color teemp? Is it a true 10K or is it closer to 14k?

The one we have in the store is the 15K Ocean Blue. It actually looks closer to 20K. I've read that the 10K version is actually closer to 14K. Check out the videos here to give you a better idea:
