A local LFS brought in a shipment this past Thursday night/Friday morning. It was one of the best shipments I've seen in years. They had approx. 200 in the shipment and by the time I got there when the store opened; 30 had been sold within 5 mins, a select few reserved, and some were to be shared amongst other LFS.
There was still a good retail selection on Saturday and Sunday. A friend had asked me to drop by the store on Monday to select one for him and there were only a handful of each size remaining. They went fairly fast (I also posted this event on a local forum to let fellow hobbyists know). That being said.....I wouldn't be surprised if some were to make their way out West....and East for that matter. I know some were reserved to be shipped out. I'm uncertain as to the specific details. Enclosed are mobile phone pics (best I could do at the time) of the shipment sitting in various coral vats at the local store and at local wholesaler. Apologies - I didn't want to ask the store for a pause in the powerhead/return pump (for a better pic) just in case it would introduce air bubbles into the system when power was restored. Here are 2 small ones that friends asked me to pick out for them that day: |

I totally misunderstood the title of this thread.
Very nice clams. For some reason mine seem to die after the 3 year mark. I've given up. |

Would be nice to see some clams make a comeback at the stores.
Great looking clams, and wow that is one droolworthy shipment! FWIW, Taipan I don't think that's a gigas. Looks like a really nice squamosa to me!

I don't think it's Gigas either. I recall purchasing it as a Maxima. On another forum - some say it's a Durasa - I'm not convinced of that either. lol
Eh....I'm just enjoying the view. |

I recently lost my Hippopus. Well, it might be about 6 months ago it finally let go, but still it sucks because you almost never see those in stores either. There was a nice gigas for sale at a LFS here in Calgary. Thing sat in their tanks for over a year and it was pure torture looking at it, wanting it in my tank, but not even having space for it in my 280g! Thing was a behemoth. I would estimate shell size at 18" and the mantle would extend easily 24" or more and maybe 10" wide. Just incredible. Whomever took it home is either not on Canreef or worse yet, IS, but never shows it off on here. Either way .. it's too bad it isn't being shown off.
