Default PVC threaded pipe sealant

What is being used these days for sealing pvc pipe threads?

I have used teflon tape or silicone caulking in the past with good results, but I see where the instructions on my Sequence Dart pump recommends using Teflon pipe dope (the white paste).

Which works best?

I've always used teflon tape. Never had a leak...

The teflon paste is just like the tape when it hardens, i used to use it at work a lot because it was faster than taping. Works well on some super high pressure fittings, should be no problem for a low pressure system. I used tape on all my dart fittings and have no leaks from the fittings. The shaft seal... well that's my project this weekend.
