I like the color of my 175watt 10k and the corals seem to like it too. It's really whatever looks better to you, just remember you'll get less output form a 14k bulb than a 10k. Here's a link for a DIY wavemaker. http://www.globaldialog.com/~jrice/diy/wavemaker.htm

I was going to attempt making one of them then I came across the SCWD at JL Aquatics for 55 bucks. It has been running for 3 weeks now and the fish seem to like the alternating current (they seem to be surfing across the tank with smiles on their faces) and the corals are swaying nicely, no more powerheads in the tank to cycle, it makes no noise. It was the best money I have spent on the tank and it was easy to hook up. Just another option for you.
Good luck,
Kelly

14k's also have a shorter useful lifespan, you need to replace them every 6-8 months whereas you should be able to get a year out of a good 10K.
