Question Copepod Sieve’s

Hey Folks,

I’m wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a Copepod sieve for culturing tiger, apex and cyclo pods? I have been searching around online and haven’t come across anything remotely available.

If these aren’t available, does anyone know where to source the mesh? I I watched a video, on how to use pvc pipe to create one, but still need to find the mesh somewhere in Canada or available to. Hopefully someone knows!

I have looked around, the really fine mesh sieves are over $100
I think first, you have to know what size you are looking for
ie how many holes per sq. inch you need

Ya, Etsy had some but the prices were outrageous and shipping was just as bad. Not sure it’s worth all that cost.

Looking for something around 180 and 50 microns.

In a pinch, you can use a paper coffee filter as most people have them lying around the house and are super cheap, they're not perfect but they are around 20 microns. If you want to go for a more industrial size, synthetic sieves will probably outlast your stainless steel options as no matter how much rinsing, your stainless steel will probably rust and potentially contaminate your cultures.

Just my two cents. You can even use reusable coffee filters that are plastic, I think they're even from the dollar store that are a larger mesh than 20 microns.

I've looked at offering sieves along with our products at reefsolutions.ca but have not pulled the trigger yet. All in due time I guess!

Hope that helps in the meantime!

Thanks for the information! Probably not a bad idea, to add them to inventory. Kind of a niche market to find them for sure, even online. Thanks again.
