My latest crash was from a Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber. It managed to get into the sump where it ended up dying and releasing toxins into the water and it went undiscovered for several days but by that time the damage had been done I lost all but one coral and all but 2 fish and my pistol shrimp. That was 2 and a half months ago and my tank is slowly on the mend.

Other crashes were ATO failure(pump stayed on) fish was injured and released toxins in the tank (didn’t lose anything but tank was unhappy for weeks) tank neglect I had a heart attack and tank wasn’t maintained for 8 days till I came back from Vancouver(red cyano outbreak killed half my coral)

Ironically enough I still have my original heaters both are going on 9 years and no issues.

Had a crash, pretty sure it was way too hot for over a week during the summer of 2015. I was so surprised in the slur of waste water after multiple water changes to get rid of the festering water, I some some weird worm that swam in a spiral motion survived and I had never seen before.

How big was it? Was it white? Could have been a detritus worm, that usually live in the sand.

I just read about a tank crash in the states when the families 6 yr old daughter wanted the fish to enjoy bubbles and poured about 200 millilitres of dish soap into their 150 gallon aquarium and although the parents reacted quickly the tank ended up crashing hard.

It’s something we rarely think about when dealing with children or adults unfamiliar with aquarium setups that many chemicals are bad for the home aquarium.

Even if they know better kids will invariably be kids. My nieces when they were young understood that my tank was not a play thing but that still didn’t stop the occasional car, random doll and even lego from ending up in the tank even though they knew better. I never got mad at them and often laughed along with them over what they had done yet they always knew what they had done was wrong but they still did it.
