Which is better: 1/2 or 3/4 Return?

I am in the process of getting a new tank, but am a little lost on which size of return I should get. The options are for a 1/2 or a 3/4 inch return and a 1 inch outlet. The aquarium is a 50 gallon pentagon from tenecor with a 5x5 overflow in the rear corner. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. TIA.
