I had this picture sent to me, and it's probably the best way to describe the situation that just happened with the RCMP in Edmonton:

Hopefully, this won't happen again, (and I too worry... I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old... What country are we going to have in 10 years if this keeps up?).

Its a scary thing. Me and my wife really want to get our kids back to the mountains in California. Seems to be to much going on. With all the kid beatings and stabbing as of late as well.

Not to get all political, but maybe we should all start hounding our respective politicians to voice our displeasure with the current state of affairs... It's gotten to the point where we have to be nice and worry about the feeling of the criminals, because, "they are human too, and they have feelings, etc". I fear that as a whole, we've gotten too politically correct, that we're afraid to make people pay for their crimes. Four mounties die in a grow up, countless kids get abducted, molested, beat up, and killed, (just saw a blurb about it last night on the news... the latest craze among kids / teenagers... going out and beating up in other kids / teenagers... just got to love that, eh?), but not one politician has stood up and said we need tougher laws to stem the increase in violence we are seeing! Oh well, I guess when it's a politician's kid that gets hurt, then we might see something happen... In the meantime, remember, criminals have more rights than you do, so, try not to get in the way, when they are attempting to rob you, <insert major sarcasm here >.

Oh well, just my 2 cents... who knows, maybe I'm the one who's completely out to lunch .

That picture is so sad, im tearing up as i type. Im not sure if the problem is with the government or with the people. What can you do beside being a good person yourself. Harsher penaltys might help but its still up to the person to make their own choices.

I agree, it's still up to the person, but, with penalties being more and more lax, it's less of a deterent... don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to start calling for the death penalty, (too many innocent people would have been killed... i.e., David Milgard (sp?)), but, if you know you'll just get hit with a fine, you might take the chance. Case in point.... if you speed and get caught, you get a fine, so, most people still do it, (excluding street racing, of course)... now, if the penalty was you would lose your car, would you speed?

Oh well, bottom line, be the best person you can be, and hope that you rub off on at least one other person, who, in turn, will do the same. In the end, it's up to all of us to make Canada the best country in the world... Our politicians are there to do the popular thing, not necessarily, the right thing, so, make being a good person, the popular thing, and who knows....
