What do you mean?
Besides the fact you should have lots of help?
Could you clarify your question?

Well, getting it as close to the stairs as possible on some kind of table or sawhorses helps.
Not knowing what you are dealing with for stairs and turns, I'd suggest you set up some saw horses or such at the bottom of the stairs as this is when everyone should take a rest. Besides that, it's just a matter of keeping the tank off the floor.
Do not set it down on edges and try not to twist it.
As for dollies and carpets, that all depends on the layout of your home.
They are useful when you are not dealing with stairs, but the stairs should be a fluid move; no trying to set it down. You can rest it on your thigh, but you really should keep going until you can set it down flat.

Does that help answer your question?

I ended up sliding mine down the stairs on several clean blankets. It was the easiest part of the whole move.

Buy a few of these and get your kids to move the tank!

An appliance dolly and an extra pair of hands are invaluable.

Good luck.

Everything went smooth as butter, lots of good friends helping out, most of them shaking their heads asking why are you putting a glass swimming pool in the basement.

A big thanks to Chris (Lapdog) he sold me this tank and was nice enough to come over with 2 pairs of suction cups and a dolly to help me get it down safely.

I mean to take more pics but it went by so fast... here are a few.

Tank loaded in my truck (behind the rug rats)
