I never use feed mode - the fish catch the food just fine. Do you think the waves shut off in the ocean or the prey sits still for them to catch it? Some people do shut off the return pump though, and I could see how that could be beneficial to keep food out of the sump/filtration.

Yea it's funny sometimes I shut it off other times I just toss it in , I find with if I feed pellets or flakes ( which isn't much mostly use frozen) it gives them more chance before it goes into the overflow

But no matter guess from now on they will have to be quick
