Ball tip anemones and hydroids look very different. Hydroids sure seem to have that "hard tube" like appearance. When you **** them off and they retract it pretty much just looks like an empty tube.

The ball tip or Pseudocorynactis is a small anemone that won't cause you any issues. I have about a dozen of them. Some get quite colorful. Look at them after lights out, that's when they feed. They get to about an inch and a half when opened right up.
