It's the RCA audio signal from the downstairs cable box that is lacking
If I record from the upstairs box all is normal

The signal from downstairs is split to the TV there and to the DVD-r upstairs

I'm hoping this does the trick and if not, I'll live with turning up the amp when watching recordings from downstairs

a phono pre-amp freq response is not flat plus high input impedance, might be better off looking for just a line level pre-amp

Yup it didn't work
I'll just live with the lower audio for now and do as much recording as I can from the upstairs cable box

BTW, I have an ART DJ Box for sale
