The GSP's I picked up a little while ago (thanks Jonathan) have already attached themselves to the rock I placed the frag on. I cut the elastic yesterday and the colony is firmly established with about a half inch growth along the bottom of the original frag. I would like to cut the original frag off and allow the new growth to continue. I am planning on using a razor blade to cut along the edge of the mat, trying not to slice any polyps. Would this be the proper way?

Yes you can do it this way. But if you want to trade your GSP's one day find an empty shell and slice off a sliver. Then place it into the shell. It will grow around the rim and you will have either A) a watering can; you being able to place it all over your tank b) a frag of GSP's, or c) a frag you can rent to your friends this way you will never loos the Watering can. But once again yes you can just sliver it off with a knife or blade.
