Sounds about right!

Obviously, this might also be a good opportunity to do a water change, plus all the grunge that gets stirred up when removing rock, etc.

What I did last time was use a small QT tank to hold my fish and some corals/rock. This allowed me to siphon off a fair bit of clean water prior to stirring everything up.

Then I siphoned the bulk of the leftover water into my storage container that I placed the rock in. I tried not to disturb my sand much, but if you do this remember to have some tank support when moving the tank (if you keep the sand bed in it). Conversely, you could also remove the sand bed.

Good luck,

Rob
