it sounds like possibly a flow and/or placement issue.

how many sources of flow do you have and how are they aimed? It sounds like they might be pushing in the same direction which is causing the tentacles to twist.

I try to aim my points of flow directly towards each other with a slightly upward angle. This creates naturally opposing currents which should make the corals wave back and forth rather than twist.
