Not sure what type of drain you have but the 2 most common seem to be Durso or Herbie styles. Depending upon which you have there are different methods to quiet them. A search for each will give you pictures you can use to identify which is yours and ways to quiet each. Someone with more experience than I can give you better details but hope this gets you started.

Hey, I think i am going to love it here.... I have the Durso one and the return line is in the water but hangs down straight and ends about 6 inches off the bottom of the sump... sumerged about a foot.... Thank you for your quick reply's
