If you're into fishing you're really going to like living here. Lots of nice fish in the rivers right around the city and a short drive west will open up lots of lakes if you have a canoe / boat. Drop by one of the local bait and tackle shops and they can fill you in with the details. I don't go often myself but I have a few friends that are hardcore fishermen and they rave about the spots around Calgary!
My advice about real estate in Calgary is to try to stay as close to the inner city as possible. The commute from the new communities is big and boring, much like the burbs.
