I have only second hand knowledge so take it for what it’s worth
I have been told that if you remove the inside caulking even if it is not structural there is a fairly good chance over time water will work it’s way in And start a slow leak as the inside caulking provides a seal to stop water from doing this. That is the extent of my knowledge of this...sorry
