as newguy said, because of the angle of light in the headlight unit, and because most headlights that aftermarket HID kits go into are not of the projector style, it causes a different color to come, then what you usually anticipate.

Some of the HID kits come in a hi/lo product, inwhich the high beam function will still work. Usually by turning on a #194 bulb next to the HID bulb.
