Thats right. Manufacturers refer to an aquarium as reef ready because it's drilled for an overflow! But wheres the sense in that? Those experienced in the hobby know that just because a tank is drilled for an overflow it's hardly ready to be a reef! Now add a heater, some power heads, some expensive lighting, a skimmer, filter media, sand, water & rocks and now were reef ready. "Reef Ready" is a simple marketing strategy that installs a false sense of reality that the aquarium is ready to be a reef. It's only after that a newbie starts to realize that a lot more is required. So i ask? a tank on the sales floor thats drilled & says reef ready or a complete setup being sold by an aquarist which is up and running? I know which one i think is ready to be a reef tank. But hey thats just my take on it. And to suggest that a tank without live rock is old school is B#llSH*T. Eco rock & BRS rock are fairly new products that a lot of modern reefers are turning too in a bid to avoid aquarium pest's & algae. When seeded & covered in coral there's no difference and way more environmentally friendly. Thanks.
