I will say I shared your sentiments when I was your age and both my folks were smoking. The three of us kids gave them such a hard time that eventually they did smoke.
I'm pretty sure the OP just wants to discuss the effects of smoke on the tanks though. I think it must have a negative effect myself. On a related note I keep the bathroom door shut for a few hours after I'm done in there because I notice my corals brown out if I don't.
