It depends on the species of zoanthid. Zoas will tend to be shorter and smaller in diameter. Palys tend to be longer with a larger diameter. Possible I suppose that your zoas are "stretching" towards the light. One method I have used is to glue a rock in the path of your spreading zoas, when they creep on to the "barricade" rock, you pop the rock off and sell or trade it....or give it to me
