I've heard this too, but I've been told that it's just one way to make them split, not the only way. I've also heard that feeding the crap out of them can induce a split. I guess because it gets so big it decides that it's time.

Mason, it sounds like heavy feeding followed by a large water change induces a bta to split. I also read where a guy was cutting them in half with a razor blade
