Scuba Maui yes or no for noob
Just got my PADI in the Caymans in January and will be diving in Aruba in October and I want to keep my skills up.
We will be in Maui soon. I'm interested in getting in a dive if I can but I don't know if it's worthwhile. The snorkeling I've done there has not been very good and one shore dive I did had mainly dead corals. I was wondering about maybe diving Molokini. For anyone who has dove Maui is it worthwhile or not?

I was just there. Definitely yes, Molokini has fabulous visibility and I did a shore dive off Wailea which was amazing. Tons of coral(different types than Cayman but very healthy looking reef) and saw swimming octopus, turtle and manta ray.

You can get up close to Turtles in Turtle Cove. My Hubbys first dive he enjoyed it. Went on the Crater/T.Cove trip & the guides were great. Have to get up REALLY early though. |

OK will do it.
Any advice on a good dive operator that takes small groups ie. 4 to 6 people instead of a huge crowd?

A master diver I know recommended Scuba Shack (he spent time in Maui and worked/trained with Charley Neal).
We listened to his advice and were very pleased with our captain and her dive masters. It is a smaller boat, but it has a toilet and fresh water shower. They bring along drinks and energy bars for mid-trip (They also provide all equipment if needed). You leave very early from boat ramp in Kihei, to get ahead of the HUGE boats and all the people. www.scubashack.com Have fun I am sooo jealous. |
