But how do they get stuff to stick to them ? Do they just spear it with their spines ?

I think they use tube feet just like star fish.

yeah 04scoobysti is right, they hold on with thier little tube feet, which are located all the way from the mouth at the bottom to the anus at the top. :P

Today one found a little chunk of epoxy... its quite ugly and I wish he would drop it. hehe.

I hear your urchin is in good health if it carries things around for camouflage... if it doesn't carry anything around it is sick or dying
