Default silica sand question

I've read the article by Rob toonen about silica which he proves some good points, but I'd just like to hear from others on what your thoughts are using it as a substrate

The only real diffrence that i know of is the silica wont buffer your tank.
Plus you need to make sure you rinse the hell out of it.
Ive used it in both fresh and salt tank's and havent had a problem
