drilling, overflow, or trade?

I just bought a 46 bow...but now i am contemplating either getting it drilled or getting a new 46 bow with reef ready. Which is more economical. i want to run a sump with my setup. i was thinking getting an overflow and using this instead. what are the thoughts on these options or if anyone could suggest a better idea. thanks

Fairview glass in Port Moody has done all my drilling for about $20.00 per hole. They will not gaurantee the tank if it breaks, but they have never missed yet for me. Expect to leave it with them for 24 hours.

Another option is getting an external overflow box . . . I had the same dilemma when I started out. In my case I decided that it would be best for me if I don't get the tank drilled . . . CPR makes the BEST overflow box IMO/IME . .

might cost you abit tho (anywhere around $100-$200 depending on size / brand) . . . for ur tank

The brand that Im using is a cpr-cs50 paid for $120 and does about 300GPH

My external overflow pic . . . (beside the powerhead on the right side of tank)... depending on your rock/coral structure you can hide the box if you want to . . . in my case . . . I could care less if I see it or not. . . as long as it works

looks great. i think i might do this. How big is your tank? @ JL they have this overflow for only 109. before tax. sounds like a good option. what kind of pump are you running for your return. thanks

My tank . . . its only 27gal . . . Im in the works of upgrading to 75gal tho . . . just need time off work (I work too much) . . . but anyhow . . . as for the return pump, I use "quiet-one" brand. . . I really like this pump as it is super quiet . . . u can ask J&L which one suits ur tank (my return pump is 300GPH and my overflow box is designed for up to 300GPH) make sure u match yours too! . . .

im planning to use the cpr cs50 and i think i may have a mag 350 pump lying around some where or even a mag 700....depending.. i gonna run it to a sump which probably will be a 27 gal tank with some live sand and rock it....does this sound ok. thnaks

I would uhh have to agree. YOu could also do it like fish (chad) did his. He just got a slice taken off the top of the glass pain and put the overflow around that. THen put some egg crated where the glass was.

Oh . . . I thought internal overflows are the one BUILT IN the tank and external ones are the one that hangs OUTSIDE ur tank making it external . . . anyhow . . . whatever it is I use a cpr-cs50 and I didn't have to drill my tank . . .
