I have actually given this serious thought if my tank did a full crash where everything or almost everything died I think I would restart my tank and apply lessons learned along the road in restarting and rebuilding my tank
As much as it can cost it still gives me great joy even on my worst days my tank is still my solace. Even my Clownholes to a certain degree

After a previous tank crash where I lost all my live stock I would prob take a break for a bit before starting fresh.

I’ve had it happen, the tank sat running but neglected for about 3 yrs. I’ve jumped back in with both feet.

If my tank crashed overnight I would spend the next day cleaning it up and starting again. It would take a literal apocalypse to stop me, even then I would drag it outside and try it in a kiddie pool or something.

This has been the past year,I miss the good times. I have had small crashes befor but December 2017 we Hosted a Christmas dinner one of my nephews put a batterie in my Ato thousands lost and years of work. It was to late when I found it. I restarted late December 2018 it has been a painfully restart so much algae I miss the days when sps were a pain to keep trimmed. Business has really taken a toll on me lately I need some luck from the reef gods

Restart.
I would also begin keeping very accurate journals of changes within the water chemistry. Tracking any things I added to tank and hoiw much and when. Would no longer add ANY cure type additives such as liquid phosphate removers etcetc. If I added calcium chloride I would only add two part, and if possible dose Kalkwasser at night. 10 percent water change each week. Oh and I would attach an alarm to the aquarium lid! Sorry to hear bout that. -Les |

With a new baby on the way, if I suffered a catastrophic crash of any of my tanks, I'd probably shut down and sell off that tank setup. However, I have 8 tanks of various types & sizes at home and another 5 setup at the local elementary school, so it would just be a small downsizing, rather than a quitting the hobby type of reaction.

When my 250 SPS blew out and I lost everything it took me over a year to start another tank. And 6 months of running to add anything into it.....
