How to clean out the worms and stuff?

I have a CPR overflow and there's a lot of tubeworms or whatever inside the overflow. How do I clean them out??
I'm done with the overflow as I have upgraded to a tank with a built in so what's a good way to get rid of it?

I know laundry detergent dissolves flesh over time. but I'm betting the plastic will absorb some of it which is not good.
so what's my alternative?

Diluted vinegar in water will work. Soak it for a while and then scrub or use a pressure washer on what remains.
