Hmm,

Today i just got a clown tang and is being chased by my brown tang. I turned off the light and still does not help. I thought they are different color and shape, they should be ok.

Any thoughts?

I suspect your brown tang feels threatened. Also, I've noticed that clown tangs are very skittish and and easily bullied. The brown will probably keep bullying him for as long as he can get away with it. Clown tangs are actually quite hard to keep. Yours will probably be doomed.. Try taking out the brown tang and placing him in qurantine to give the clown tang some hope of making it.

I know a lot of people have re-directed the focus of an attacking fish by putting a mirror up so that they attack their own image rather than the other fish until things calm down.

I would try that.

How big is your tank?

I found that my Powder Brown is far more aggressive than my Purple or Hippo tangs.

Are we talking about a scopas (brown tang) or a powder brown/whitecheek/goldrim. If its the second one, then they are more closely related. Otherwise you will probably have about 2 weeks of fighting if its the first one.

Yes, immediately return the fish to the LFS for a credit and review
www.wetwebmedia.com before you buy future fish or ask questions here.

Good Luck

if i take out the brown tang, would it help to put him back in the main tank in later time? My tank is 155 gallon. Btw, i put the mirror and my powder brown tang does not attack its image

I would have to agree with Naesco, if you can return the clown tang do it. They are very nice fish, but they are hard to keep and they get very large. Even a 155 is not big enough for it. If you do manage to keep it alive the aggression may diminish as it gets bigger, clown tangs are very aggressive.

As to the "why" question, personally I think the clown tang has a similar shape to the powder brown.

powder brown vs clown tang
.. ..

The clown tang may establish himself enough to fight back once you put the powder brown back in, maybe. Assuming the clown tang hasn't already kicked the bucket. Funny, I see LFS bring in clown tangs ALL the time and they are beautiful fish, but I have never seen a clown tang in any hobbyists tank.. poor little guys, they really do belong in the sea probably.
