Looks similar to a common halogen pendant which can be purchased at most hardware stores for around the same price. It's a common DIY part for 70 & 150W halides.

It may be the price that makes these lights so particularily appealing

It's not really the low price that has me wanting these. It's just the dimensions that will work for my application. It's surprisingly hard to find low profile MH fixtures. I'm sure there's a reason for it, as in the bigger the more reflection.

$39.95 is cheap but I'll still need ballast and bulb so one can probably add about $200+.

In case anyone is wondering what i'm trying to squeeze these into? 28" diameter canopy over a cylindrical tank. The tank sits in the middle of the room so hanging something from the roof isn't an option, besides the fact it would completely ruin the asthetics of the tank.

how much room you got?

I wanted a low profile on my hood so went with PFO min-pendants (12x7.5x4.5"H) mounted inside and the Reef Optix3 aren't that big either 11x9x4"h.

btw I e-mailed PFO for minimum height above water and said 5", also considered Hamilton's Reefstar (3.5" high) but they said their clearance was 8".
