Default Wave maker

Hey reefers

My next purchase for my 180 mixed reef is going to be a wave maker.
Presently I have 4 fans (two hydors and two Aqueon) running right now.

from my research i have noticed that having a wave controller is hard on these models and worry that turning them off and on would create issues. (my one hydor goes backwards 3x to 1)

What would be the best wave action and would it be better to replace the fans?
|I was looking at a wavebox but a little on the pricey side and didn't like the big black box in the tank.

please give me some idea's

yea just don't like the box - I really can't hide it.

The jebao wp-40 wave maker looks really good. Anyone using this?
also is it big enough for a 180?

Love my Jebao WP60 and it takes care of almost all the flow for my 165g (almost same dimensions as 180g). Good "wave" action at the surface and corals waft in the current.

You may or may not care but I will post this for information to consider. The Jebao WP 25 and 40 are stolen designs from Tunze and produced in China where they can get away with the copywright infraction. Like I said you may or may not care about the ethics but don't expect the same build quality or support from Jebao and if saving a little short term money is not a concern check out the real thing from Tunze.

Personally, I use Ecotech pumps. Fully controllable, low profile and produce a great wave.
