OK, my new 200 Gallon was chipped during a move. I guess they set it down on the concrete stairs leading into my house. The chip is in the middle of the tank at the bottom of the front paine and is maybe an inch long. I does come up about a quarter inch above the floor paine. Can chips be repaired? Is there a method?

If you paid the movers, make them get you a new tank. They will complain and try to get you to fix it but it will never be the same. Chances are that the tank is less then their deductible so it will come out of their pocket. I moved from Winnipeg to Edmonton four years ago and my computer was damaged. It took 6 months for me to convince them that it would be a good idea for them to replace my computer and they did. Oh, and do not let them pick the tank because they will buy the cheap brand. Make sure you get apples for apples.

I agree. A reputable business will honour its mistakes. One of the first jobs I did when I started my business was to install a $2 lock on a patio door. I "tagged" the glass when drilling the hole and shattered the window. $250 later I had secured my rep with the realtors and learned a lesson I'll never forget. Over the next couple of years I probably did $20,000 worth of business with them.
You can't really fix a glass chip for structural integrity. It may never give you a problem but then again it may crack and break when full. It may not even crack right away either. Glass is perversely funny that way.

Good luck.

A tank builder might be able to replace the affected panel. With the damage you've described, if it was my tank I would not be able to sleep at night if it was filled water.

Good luck.

i just had the same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago when the movers moved my 265gal. i had a couple chips but after inspection it was found to be ok, havent filled the tank yet though. i never paid the movers anything and they havent phoned back. the owner of the LFS was on the phone right away with the manufacturer getting their input, so we took some pics and emailed them and everyone is thinking it should be good. so i can only suggest taking pictures and contacting the manufacturer. just to clarify it wasnt the LFS that moved my tank but an actual moving company that damaged it

The front paine actually wraps around the two sides as well, with 2 90 degree bends in it. not so easy to replace. It was custom ordered from aqua giant on 170th street, dual overflows, etc... Not something they normally carry. I guess I need someone to look at it,to see if it is okay. Fixing it may be my only option.
