high alk
Just measured my Alk and it is at very high at 12.6 dkh/4.5 meq. Calcium is 415ppm. Ph 8.35, temp 79 and salinity 1.026, mag is 1300 ppm. Phos is 0
Used a Salifort test kit, my Hanna (recalled reagent) puts it at 10.7 dkh/3.82 couple of questions: Is this okay? Can I wait for it to reduce naturally? Why is it so high? ps all coral and fish seem happy enough

12.6 would make some people uncomfortable, but I don't think you should panic. I would try testing the supplied solution with the Salifert kit, and then your water again. What salt are you using?

Yes I think a retest is in order. Using IO reef crystals.

10.7 is pretty spot on for Reef Crystals at .026.

so I retested....saw my mistake right away, the instructions say using the 5ml syringe add 4 ml of tank water. Well, you guessed it, I added all 5. So the retest shows Alk at 9.1 dkh/ 3.25 Meq which I think is a good place for it to be.
Now how do I delete this thread and pretend that I am not such an idiot?
