For my ATO I have been using a $12 pump I got at RC :-). It is the smallest pump in the odessey line that you got from them not long ago. I know you had issues with the heat out of yours but for ato I dint think that's much of a concern plus the pump is so small. Anyway I have been using it without fail for over 10 months now. Just added another one for my new tank and will probably be getting a third soon :-)

I use a Tom Aqua Lifter pump with the JBJ ATO. Works really well.

I use aqualifters for both tanks. If you want a more conventional small pump you could look at a mini-jet 404.
