My wife doesn't want me to make any messy in the loundry room which just been remodel, and it is where I usully do water change for my freshwater tank. Can I use tap water without RO/DI ? and how? Is there anything else can do the same work as a RO/DI ? thanks!

Our water is pretty clean right out of the tap so I just use a DI filter.

Yup, same here, used to use RO/DI than thought to myself why as the water out of the tap tests at approx 15ppm, a DI cartridge lasts a long time. Wasting a lot of water in making RO. So my current setup is a 5 micron carbon cartridge followed by a 1 micron filter cartridge followed by DI.

Only downside is our water can have a lot of turbidity in the winter but the 1 micron filter cartridge help this out to a certain extent.

Sorry to hijack but is there any way I can find out the quality and TDS of my local water without having to buy a TDS meter? (I use RODI water but I think the water here is actually pretty good)
