LR and Protein skimmer positioning in sump
Question.....I have three chambers in my sump....recently removed my filter socks because they are annoying and my wife claims she finds "shrimp and star fish" in her washing machine....
I want to add LR in my sump into the middle compartment....I was thinking my skimmer should be placed in the chamber where my tank drains to...max skimming I would think and then off to the LR and then to return pump/GFO/Carbon and Bio pellets. Is my logic sound? Thanks for your input Tony

Yep skimmer compartments are usually first. You are running both GFO and pellets? Do you have phospate problems?

Sorry to hijack, but do you guys find that the flow rate through the skimmer compartment affects the skimmer's efficiency?
If so, is low flow better than high flow?

make sure you syphon your return area during waterchanges. without socks you get alot of build up, esspecially in a tank with lots of fish
