Question PC to 250 MH Transition

I just switched my lights from power compacts to a 250W metal halide pendant, it is currently 2 feet off the water . The question I have how often should I move it down and how far should it move at a time and what will be the final height from the water?

My tank is two feet in height with mostly with softies.

Thx,
Stefan

250's will be quite strong for softies but still good. My 150's are about 4-5" off the water's surface for LPS/softies tank. I would just slowly move it down an inch per day if they're 2 feet off the water now. Re-adjust if you see your softies reacting negatively.

thats alot for softies.... they dont need lots of light... the higher the better just so the water does not heat up

how does the light look over the tank.
I would move the light about 1"-2" every three to four days. keep an eye on how much the softs open up. If they close move the light up or hold the hight for a week and see what happens. the light should be between 8"-12" off the water at the end.
watch the water temp, don't let the water go over 83F.
