I dose vinegar, have dosed vodka, same thing but vinegar 8x weaker, I use a brs 1.1ml pump, I dose 2min 15 sec (@ 2.5 ml) every 30 min thru the day, 24 doses, I use my apex to control my pump.

It's been a while, but would vinegar be better than Biopellets? They do the same thing, right? to control nitrates?

They are all carbon sources, bio pellets are polymers which break down into sugars which break down into ethanol (vodka), which break down into acetic acid (vinegar). Bio pellets need to have the effluant directed into a good protein skimmer, they all promote the reproduction of bacteria which utilize some po4 and no3 in their cells and get removed through skimming, carbon dosing usually requires some additional means of exporting po4 such as gfo and no3 reduction can be slow but once reduced is easily maintained, if you have really high no3 you may need to reduce it through some other means such as WC or some other denitrator first then carbon dosing can maintain it. Always go slow with carbon dosing, vinegar is your safest but you have to consider your ph, dosed slowly throughout the day is ok, vinegar is also less likely to promote cyano.

OK Thx. Ive been using Pellets for a couple years now on my 150. But the reactor is fed by my return pump manifold, and fed back into my sump, into the return pump inlet. The Skimmer is external in a rubbermaid tub beside tank and feeds into the sump under tank where the Pellets are fed form. Snould I be rerouting my reactors? To the skimmer tote?
