The NY Times article states "simulation". They would never shut down the grid on purpose!
Still a good idea to have some sort of backup plan for any real power outage!

One big cover up for something else! Y would this affect Canada? Y r we participating wen it's the US supposedly under attack?

It's a smokescreen for the inevitable crash of the us dollar, and martial law. I would think its a think tank observation experiment to see how public responds to having no power etc......

On November 13-14, 2013, GridEx II will exercise NERC (North American Reliability CORPORATION) and industry crisis response plans and identify actionable improvement recommendations for plans, security programs, and skills. The scenario will build on lessons learned from GridEx 2011 and include both cybersecurity and physical security components.

This is a "simulated exercise" to practice crisis response and information sharing. No real power outages will occur due to this exercise.

How this will affect Canada , who knows. A lot of sources did say it is North American wide mentioning USA Canada and Mexico.
What will really happen?, maybe nothing to talk about, or maybe something interesting will take place who knows.
A lot of people believe that Corporations are good and FOR the people, so lets wait and see.
