Angry HALP with kent marine nautilus te (pos) skimmer!

Hey all,

As some of you may know I've constructed my own aquarium. In the mean time I've been having my sump cycle itself.

I had this skimmer (which I know is pretty oldschool) running with a tetra 450gph pump temporarily. It seemed as though it was operating fine although its instructions recommend a 650-900gph pump.

So today I just spent 90 bucks on a new 700gph danner magdrive pump and about an hour reconfiguring the skimmer... only to have it overflowing like niagra falls! The cup fills up within 20 seconds of pure water and water just completely jets out of the output.. WTF!?

I double checked and the air intake line isnt submerged (and its now loud as hell) and I even tried raising the skimmer up with some egg crate which helped a little but its still doing the same thing.. ideas?

heres a pic of my sump:

look at the pic haha.. (this was before i changed anything at all)

i was told it was too high of a water line.. so i egg crated it up BEFORE i got this new pump and then the water leve wasnt even close to reaching the cup so nothing was actually being skimmed.

in my opinion i should just try and return this "recommended" flow pump and put everything back to how it was!

Install a ball valve so you can control the flow...
