Default Vortex in250 question

I bought a vortex in 250 and am running it in 7 in of water but having a bit of trouble setting it.

Just wanted to know how much water others are running there's in or if there is a trick or two to maintaining a set level

It's stated 6-8 inchs in the instructions. I had mine at around 8 and it's in my ato area so the water level was always constant. It was a little tricky to set up but there is a break in period to don't forget.

Loudest part of my system would be the nagging sound I hear on a regular basis about how much time and money I spend on the tank.

My issues may be due solely to a sketchy ATO... or not, but my in250 seems to need babysitting at a semi regular interval. I've ordered a new self engineered sump to hopefully rectify the problem... fingers crossed.
