what is this hitch hiker?

This grew from a smaller version around 5 mm diameter to this dime size. It always has its tentacles out. I think it is some sort of anenome... definitely not a mushroom. It was on a golden rod gorg frag I bought.. Any ideas? - do you think it is safe to keep or get rid of it down the road?
