Why would a sane person do that?

I did, and I thought I was sane. It actually burned a little dimmer and a wee bit whiter. I left it running for a couple hours and it seemed fine. On a second test it extinguished it self after about 15 minutes. The bulb still works, but I didn't want to chance it.

I experimented using the 400 watt Iwasaki's.

Brad, those were my exact thoughts.

Bryan, I knew you'd chime in, thanks. If it worked I have two 400w Iwasaki bulbs just laying around. Thought I could do an experiment... but I thought I would ask first.

Doesn't sound like a good plan though.
