Buying new digital cam- need advice

So my Olympus 4000c went in for the 4th repair and now futureshop is crediting me a new camera of equal value. The Olympus was $800 3 years ago. That should leave me with about $400 credit. So here's what I am thinking.. I will spend anywhere from $500-$800 and I want a camera that can do at least 800 ISO and work fully manually. I'll be using it for some tank photography, lots of live band photography and various other stuff... Anyone here have any advice on what company to go for? I will never ever use Olympus again in my life.
