Default Solar Tubes

Has anyone in Western Canada tried using Solar Tubes over their reef tanks? I've read some threads on RC about people using them in the Southern U.S. and results seem very promising. I'm wondering how well they would work here, with out reduced sunlight periods in the winter and all.

Some food for thought...

A couple of different brands are on the market, but you'd need to supplement with conventional lighting. I seriously considered it, but found the sun didn't shine enough over my house.
